Contentment  

Contentment simply means a state of being happy and satisfied with what one has. A contented person is not always going above the law to possess riches but satisfied with the one he/she can get. A contentment person is a one who realizes that contentment starts from the inside with a satisfied mind and a cheerful heart. A contented person is one who is satisfied with who they are, what they are not and are not looking or demand more. 

Features of contentment 

1. They live in the moment 

2. They focus on enjoyment instead of constantly looking at how life can be improved. 

3. Their minds are free of worries 

4. They assume the world is generally good rather than evil. 

5. They focus on the beauty of life rather than the ugliness. 

6. They experience life rather than constantly analyzing it 

7. They let go of things they can’t control instead of hanging on to it. 

Advantages/merits of contentment 

1. Contentment helps to promote fairness and justice. 

2. It promotes tolerance, good inter-personal/inter-communal relations/cooperation/oneness in the society. 

3. It promotes good self-image. 

4. It discourages crime in society. 

5. It promotes good national image. 

6. It promotes good national dignity. 

7. It promotes the dignity of labour/hard work/service orientation. 

8. It discourages embezzlement/siphoning/misappropriation of fund

9. It discourages corrupt practices/fraudulent activities. 

10. It reduces the feeling of inferiority complex/promotes self-confidence. 

Negative effects of lack of contentment 

1. It breeds corrupt practices/fraudulent activities such as cyber-crimes, advance fee fraud (419), etc. 

2. It leads to greed and avarice. 

3. It results in envy, jealousy, dishonesty, wickedness, among others. 

4. It leads to disunity which in turn leads to conflicts. 

5. it leads to false living/materialism. 6. It breeds anarchy/total breakdown of law and order.

Honesty can be defined as the act of being truthful to yourself, others and being straightforward in whatever we do. Simply put, the meaning of honesty is being honourable in principles, intentions, and actions; upright and fair
